Generation
Now that Rachel has so wonderfully covered Freedom, I thought I talk to bout our generation.
God has spoken to us about leading our generation into a powerful relationship with Him that will then be passed on from generation to generation as we raise priestly families! For those of you a bit more astute I am mainly referring to Generation Y- those of us born out of the Baby Boomers of the 50′s. Over the centuries one generation will take over from another, generally becoming more and more rebellious, more unhappy with life and going further away from God. At the same time, the rise of technology allows for greater communication as well as a lot less personal communication. People now live most of their lives communicated to the world over Facebook or MSN, never before can we know exactly what hundreds of our ‘friends’ have been up to without actually having to talk to them. I had to remind myself the other day to talk to someone who I used to go to school with 12 years ago, had been my friend on Facebook for at least a year, but the last time I actually spoke to him was at school!
Now this is no criticism of our generation or technology (I have my own iPhone, iPod, Macbook Pro and other goodies within arms reach!) but merely highlighting where we are. To make it clear, I absolutely love our generation and thank God I am here for ‘such a time as this’ (Esther 4:14) because like never before can we reach the nations of the world with our message.
Also a lot of people out there want to place blame on the ‘Baby Boomers‘ for the way society has turned out, especially in view of the global recession but to be honest, probably every generation starts off by trying to have a go at the previous generation. The truth is that as Christians we could state a stronger case then others as, over the years, our government and legislation has becoming increasingly secular and against Christianity, but I believe that as Christians our generation needs to be different.
God speaks of honouring those in authority (Romans 13:1-3) as well as our parents (Eph 6:2) who are often those of the previous generation. It is therefore right for us to honour the previous generation, celebrate their achievements, thank them for everything they have done for us, as well as learning from their mistakes. The truth is that we have a lot to be thankful for and if we don’t allow ourselves to be aligned correctly with our mothers & fathers then it doesn’t leave us in good stead for our future and the generations to come.
This is our time to turn a generation to God, to lead them into a true freedom and relationship with God. We can be the generation to truely remember who the Lord is, remember his deeds and encounter Jesus as a saviour. We can be the Freedom Generation!
